Background of the Study
Digital disruption is transforming the landscape of investment banking by introducing innovative business models, automating traditional processes, and reshaping client interactions. Access Bank Nigeria has experienced significant digital disruption, prompting it to overhaul its operational frameworks to remain competitive in an increasingly digital world (Oluwatoyin, 2023). The bank has adopted technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and cloud computing to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve transparency. These technologies enable real-time processing, better risk management, and more personalized client services. Digital disruption has also led to the creation of new revenue streams and the redefinition of service delivery channels. However, the rapid pace of digital change poses challenges, including cybersecurity risks, integration issues with legacy systems, and the need for continuous technological upgrades. This study examines how digital disruption has affected investment banking operations at Access Bank Nigeria, analyzing the benefits and challenges of adopting disruptive technologies. By evaluating internal transformation initiatives, client feedback, and performance metrics, the research seeks to provide insights into how digital disruption can be leveraged to enhance operational effectiveness while mitigating associated risks.
Statement of the Problem
Despite aggressive digital transformation efforts, Access Bank Nigeria faces challenges in fully capitalizing on digital disruption. A primary issue is the difficulty in integrating advanced digital platforms with established legacy systems, leading to operational inefficiencies and data silos (Ifeanyi, 2023). Additionally, rapid technological changes require constant investments in system upgrades and staff training, which can strain resources. Cybersecurity vulnerabilities further exacerbate these challenges, potentially undermining client trust and regulatory compliance. These issues impede the bank’s ability to realize the full benefits of digital disruption, such as improved transaction speeds and enhanced customer experiences. This study aims to identify the key obstacles that limit the effectiveness of digital transformation initiatives at Access Bank Nigeria and propose strategies to overcome them.
